Fatal error after upgrading to PHP 8.1

[Solved]

  • DCommins 2 years, 2 months ago

I recently upgraded the PHP version for our site from 7.4 to 8.1 and I’m seeing the following fatal error from the FV Player plugin when I try to update another element on the site. The error didn’t happen until I changed the PHP version. The error causes a cascade of other problems but the root seems to be a line in editor.php.

Fatal error: Uncaught TypeError: preg_match_all(): Argument #2 ($subject) must be of type string, array given in /homepages/8/d121780956/htdocs/narratorsroadmap/wp-content/plugins/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/controller/editor.php:256 Stack trace: #0

I’m running the following versions of the player and WordPress:

    FV Player version: 7.5.31.7212
    FV Player core version: 7.2.12.1
    WordPress Version: 6.1.1

I have about 25 videos on the site using FV Player so I’m wondering if there is something I need to change in the settings or on the videos themselves.

    Thanks,
    Drew

    Hello Drew,

it’s strange as we did not run into that issue and we test on PHP 8.2 as well.

In that part of the code we work with get_post_custom() function which returns an array which we then iterate (both dimensions). So the preg_match_all() function call should really be getting a string already. But I added a check now.

Please reinstall from https://foliovision.com/downloads/fv-wordpress-flowplayer.zip and see if that fixes the issue.

    Thanks,
    Martin

That seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks for the quick response!
