Getting two ‘closing tags’ (” /> “) output in HTML, just after tag

Foliovision › Forums › FV Simpler SEO › Bug reports › Getting two ‘closing tags’ (” /> “) output in HTML, just after tag

  • dizturbio 10 years, 10 months ago

    I am building a blog based on the Roots theme (roots.io) and ran into a snag when trying to use your FV Simpler SEO plugin.

    On the front page of my blog I am getting two “lost” closing tags, showing up before my header, the HTML output I’m getting looks like this:

    <body class="home page logged-in admin-bar customize-support">" />

    <meta property="og:url" content="/">
    <meta property="og:site_name" content="Jogadores">
    <meta name="twitter:title" content="">
    <meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image">
    <meta name="twitter:description" content="">
    <meta name="twitter:image" content="</span>">" />
    <meta name="twitter:url" content="/">

    I’ve tried looking around your plugin code, trying to understand where those ‘/>’ come from, but I haven’t really got it yet…so any help would be much appreciated.

    I have a “live” version of the site at http://www.jogadores.pt exhibiting that behaviour, and can provide login credentials if needed for further testing

    Hello dizturbio,

    are you getting the same when you use the default template? Does it work fine for single posts, or is it just homepage?

    On our end, we could double-check if we escape any HTML properly – to not break the meta tag attributes.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Martin,

    thank you for your response, I just momentarily switched my blog’s theme to default (Twenty Fourteen) and the bug doesn’t happen at all with that theme, I also had verified before that it only happens on the home page / front page, not on single posts or even category view (archives).

    again, if you’d like/need to have a deeper look into the issue, I can set up wp-admin and FTP access for you.

    Thanks again,
    José

    Hi Jose,

    Thanks for the update. I’m glad to hear FV Simpler SEO works on your hosting with the default them and even on your single posts and archives.

    Troubleshooting your particular custom theme would be a pro support incident.

    We’d love to help you clear this up. If you find the solution on your own, we’d also be very grateful if you could share your solution with others.

    Thanks for trying FV Plugins!

    Hi Alec,

    I have fiddled a bit with the plugin options, and eventually found my problem is related to the ‘social meta tags’; deactivating the “Insert Facebook Open Graph tags:” and “Insert Twitter Card meta tags:” checkboxes made each of my ‘intruding’ closing tags disappear.

    I tried having a look around in your plugin code and found the function handling those options but couldn’t figure out what might be wrong with them, my proficiency in PHP is still somewhat basic and to me everything seemed to be properly opened and closed in there.

    I think I can still get most of the benefit from your plugin even with those options disabled, so I’m sticking with that solution for now.

    Thanks for your replies anyway, and for creating plugins like these in the first place.

    Best regards,
    José

    Hi José,

    Thanks for sharing your findings: they are very helpful. We’ll have a look at the Facebook OpenGraph and Twitter Cards code (it’s quite new) and see if we can’t make it more bulletproof.

    Thanks for being part of Foliovision!

    Hi José,

    For the record, we tested this in detail in February and everything was working. If you would like to try Facebook OpenGraph and Twitter Cards again, please do.

    Sorry for the late notification. We’re cleaning up some old tasks.

    Making the web work for you, Alec
