I intend to purchase FV Player VAST in the future. However, from the product purchase page, it reads “License is valid for 1 year and includes plugin support and auto-updates.”
Does this mean that you need a new VAST license every year or it only applies if you need updates and support after the stipulated validity period but it will still continue to work if you don’t renew the license?

Hello Deewin,
For FV Vast license applies the same conditions as for the FV Player license. It’s a lifetime with update and support yearly subscription.
After the first year, you can use your FV Vast license without any issues, only difference is that you won’t have access to new updates.

Thanks for the clarification. I read that line in FV Player VAST and it’s not present on FV Player Pro product purchase page. It got me wondering.

I’m sorry, but you were given incorrect information. Normally we talk about these issues in the office, but currently our team is working at home.
Due to the complexity of VAST ads we cannot guarantee it will work if you let your license and updates expire. So once the license is expired, so is the ad serving.

I think it’s good to be clear. It’s not that you “Cannot guarantee it will work if you let your license and updates expire.” Just state that the VAST license is not permanent but renewable on an annual basis.
However, I feel it should be permanent and only renewable if one needs an update for the feature. May be new VAST technologies show up, which you keep updating.
Also, may be you’ve updated the product to a robust one and the user needs the new update. Hopefully, the FV Player pro does not need a renewable license too.

after years of developing and maintaining both plugins we can see the different amount of work required to keep these plugins working. This is also reflected in the renewal price. If you renew the FV Player license before it has expired, you only pay 1/3 of the license price, not many paid WordPress plugins offer such deal.
If you choose to not renew FV Player it keeps working, you can keep using your custom logo and the Pro features, but we cannot guarantee everything will keep working in the new browsers (like that time when Chrome stopped video autoplay for first-time visitors) or operating system versions (mainly iOS, Android).

Yes there’s a discount on VAST license as well. Although it’s not exactly 1/3 of the price as VAST license renewal costs $120. As Martin said VAST ad standards are changing really often and so is our VAST plugin and higher price is a compensation for amount of work on it.
We still believe that prices of FV Player and VAST are still really low compared to other similar services which offer video based monetisation.
