We want to let the user play both videos at once.
One video is a presenter speaking
The other video is the filmed powerpoint
The videos are meant to be viewed consecutively. YouTube allows for this, which is what we have been using.
If we are not able to have two videos play at once we will not be able to use FV Player and will need to cancel our service and find another option.
I will discuss this with Alec. Perhaps we can add a setting like “Simultaneous video playback” which would have following options:
* Disabled – the current state, where you can only play one video at a time
* Pause other video – also allowing only one video to play at a time, but pausing the other video rather than stopping it
* Allowed – allowing multiple videos to play at once
But in my opinion it doesn’t make much sense. But I would like the other videos to pause rather than stop completely.
That synchronized video playback feature makes more sense to me, although it’s not easy – one video might be buffering a lot more than the other for example.
When can we expect the ability to have Simultaneous Video Playback? We’re on a timeline where we need to enable our video pages, but as of right now we can’t because the videos can’t be played at the same time. If we have a timeframe for when this feature will be enabled it will help us decide if we stay with this plugin or find another one.
Also, How do we set up Synchronized Video Playback? I see you mentioned it above, but I don’t see any information on that.
This screenshot might give you a better idea of what we need to achieve.
Thanks for your detailed notes.
Adding and testing simultaneous playback requires a couple of hours of work on our end. Multiple players at the same time is not a feature we often get and it will create issues for those publishers who only want one video running at the same time (vast majority). Still, we would be happy to this as custom development for you for $250. We will include the option in the core of the player, so you’ll be able to continue to update and enjoy the simultaneous player option. If you do decide to move forward with the custom development, I will be happy to add a free year to your license as part of the package.
If you’d prefer to have a refund, just let me know.
Making the web work for you, Alec
We would like to proceed with having you customize the plug-in for us so that we can play 2 videos at the same time. You include the option in the core of the player, so we can continue to update. You will be adding a free year to our license as part of the package, which we appreciate.
Please send us an invoice or link to pay for the custom development project.
We are on a publishing deadline for one of our new online CME course and so as you can imagine would like to see this completed asap.
If you need any other information or access to the website for development please let us know. We have a testing page set up.
We are looking forward to fully implementing the FV Player.
Could you go ahead and purchase this service at $250: https://foliovision.com/downloads/video-security-consultation
We’ll use the fee instead to develop the two player interface for you as described above.
PS. You will be able to download an invoice from your account (please add your business information). If you need a custom invoice with the details of the project in it, please post your business information to me at @foliovision.com">firstname.lastname@example.org and I will do so.
I also enabled this new feature on our website for today, so you can check if you run into any issues when playing multiple videos on our YouTube page here: https://foliovision.com/player/demos/youtube-embedding
On desktop computer I didn’t encounter any trouble except for the scroll autoplay feature of FV Player Pro (it fails to stop the videos which go outside of the viewport) and the sticky video (it puts all the videos into the same sticky position). I think in these cases it should just be disabled.
However when using YouTube there are some issues on iPad (only one video plays at a time) and Android (I had to tap each video twice). So we will work on these.
We will also give you a ZIP file of the plugin in development to let you run your own tests.
here’s the test version available for you. You can install it from https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/180-multiple-playback.zip
To do that you will have to first deactivate and delete the current FV Player plugin you are using. WordPress will warn you that you might loose settings and data, but it’s not the case with our plugin, no settings now videos will be lost. Or you can just replace the plugin files via FTP.
That mobile issue will likely have to be fixed in FV Player Pro as that’s where FV Player YouTube engine is
that iOS issue was fixed. It was not working as iOS won’t permit multiple audible videos playing at once. Only one video can play sound.
I think such behavior makes sense – from now on the last video which you start remains audible and the other players get muted. You can still hit the volume icon any of the other players to listen to that particular video instead.
Please download a fresh copy of https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/180-multiple-playback.zip and reinstall and enable that Settings -> FV Player -> Sidewide Flowplayer Defaults -> “Multiple video playback” setting.
Once you confirm it works we will make it part of the official release.
We see that the two videos can be played consecutively now. However, the audio is going to be a problem.
The way people will be using the videos is to start the conference video (the one where audio would want to be heard) and then start the powerpoint video to the right. So in this scenario, the audio from the conference video will not be able to be heard.
Is it not possible to have audio for both videos? Is there a way to turn off audio on the powerpoint video to avoid this usability issue?
please download a fresh copy of https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/180-multiple-playback.zip
We made it so that you can add volume=”0″ to the shortcode where the presentation slides are. That player will never play sound and will not mute the other player.
So you should have something like this for the main video:
And something like this for slides:
[fvplayer id="2" volume="0"]
We will also make it part of the FV Player editor interface.
How do we allow two separate videos to play at the same time on a single page? We need both videos to be able to have ‘Play’ pressed on them without pressing play causing the currently playing video to stop.
