    Hi, Alec -

We’re trying to solve the problem of Apple not supporting Flash, because we have over 200 swf cartoons. As a test, I installed your plugin and converted a SWF cartoon to MOV. It plays beautifully on our site – check out the home page – but my iPhone says I need Flash to see it. Is your plugin using Flash? Any way around this?

    Hi Bruce,

Adding HTML 5 is an interesting notion. We will work on making HTML 5 the preference with Flash kicking in when HTML 5 won’t work.

Not quite sure about the technical obstacles to making this happen, but it’s a priority for us as we prefer non-flash video ourselves. We run Macs and Adobe Flash performance and instability has been a constant disappointment for the last four years.

    Hi guys

My players are contracting by a few pixels every time I mouse over them in the browser (Firefox + Safari). This is causing the whole page to shift by those couple of pixels making the whole page flicker.

Any fix? Thanks again for a great piece of software!

    Hello,

Can I embed another shortcode for the popup tag?

    e.g.
    [flowplayer src='1.m4v' width=640 height=360 popup='[another_plugin]‘]

If it’s not possible now, how do I change the code to enable this functionality?

    Thanks,

    Hi Marco,

this option is currently not supported. Do you have any specific reason why you would like to embed shortcode into popup tag?
Isn’t there possibility for you to insert the desired piece of code directly, instead of inserting a shortcode?

    Hello Zdenka,

It’s because the shortcode that I’d like embed is for another plugin. It’s a plugin that generates a survey. I’d like to present a survey after the viewer finishes the video. So I thought I’d do it like this:

    [flowplayer src='1.m4v' width=640 height=360 popup='[survey 1]‘]

    Hello Marco,

At this point, we are not interested in embedding short code within our short code. It looks like a recipe for ongoing conflict issues. I’d suggest finding another way to trigger your survey. Perhaps a link for people to click on at the end of the video: that is possible in flowplayer now.

    Hello
This player seems very good, but is there a scaling issue when it is displayed in full screen mode? It seems to be extending that makes the people appear more narrow.

Also, do I need to have the files encoded by a third party service or does your player encode the files?

I checked a few samples and the files seemed to take a long time to load,

    thanks!

    Hello,

Thank you so much for this AMAZING plugin! I have two questions:

    1. For the popup at the end of the video, is there a way to have links open in new windows? At the moment, I am using basic html in the pop up and target=”_blank” is not opening the link in a new window.

    2. How can I donate some money to you? I am so thankful for your product!

  12. 12

    Hello Carl,

yes, you are right about the issue with full screen. The problem is that the full screen mode literally switches the video into full screen. Therefore if the aspect ratio of your screen is different than the aspect ratio of the video, the video will be stretched in some way. We will see if we can do something about this.

You have to upload files in formats FLV, H.264, or MP4, in order to use FV Flowplayer. If your files are in another format you need to convert them locally.

The loading speed depends on download speed provided by hosting, and also on how are the videos optimized for streaming – this may significantly improve the loading speed (already mentioned here http://foliovision.com/seo-tools/wordpress/plugins/fv-wordpress-flowplayer#comment-32133)

    Thanks for your comments!

I’ve sent details on donations to you. Basically for $25 we will offer technical support for installation and configuration of our plugins. For custom programming we will also give preferential rates for our own plugins (always seeking to make them better and your support is much appreciated). We are currently doing some amazing customisation for Kermit. Thanks Kermit!

We’ll work on an option to remove full screen.

This is a great plugin, the implications of having to paste the normal FlowPlayer javascript into WordPress posts is a nightmare, especially if it is for a client that has no knowledge of such things, along with the fact WordPress’s HTML view does not seem to ignore white spaces, corrupting the script.

One problem I am having is trying to have multiple videos on a page that use FlowPlayer’s CSS skinning plugin.

It is one FlowPlayer’s more important features, as creating a skin in Flash isn’t so easy, along with the fact the company say you require Flash CS4 to compile the control bars.

Having a way to implement that would be awesome, but it seems like a huge workload for you guys.

As well as being able to change element’s colors, being able to disable those elements as default would be nice!

That said, thanks for the plugin, it is extremely useful!

    Hi Dan,

Multiple videos is a bit of an issue. At some point we will get around to it. Any contributions you can make as a developer in terms of appearance would be most welcome.

We are doing some work on upload now with the support of Kermit, so we are expanding functionality but our basic principle for FV Flowplayer is KISS.

It would be very easy to make FV Flowplayer so powerful as to be unusable. FV Flowplayer for WordPress should be installable and easily used by normal users.

    Thanks for stopping by.

I tried FV WordPress Flowplayer 0.9.18 and like much of what I see.

BUT I would like for it to show the first frame of the video instead of leaving the video blank until the user presses the ‘start’ control.

Is there any reasonable way to provide this functionality?

    Hi Roger,

Use the splash image functionality. Sadly flash isn’t much good at what you want. This preview of a set image was more a QuickTime feature if I remember correctly.

There’s better splash image control coming up with a new uploader thanks to Kermit and his generous support for FV Flowplayer.

    Alec,
Can you elaborate? How doe I “Use the splash image functionality” to show the first frame of the video. Doesn’t it want a jpg?

Also, when will the support from “Kermit” be available and will it provide what I am looking for.

The communications that I have had with the FLV Producer people indicate that they can provide this functionality. Of course their product is $97 + $15 for WordPress plugin for $112.

  22. 22

    Hi Roger,

Yes, the splash image is simply an image that you upload along with the video, and insert it as splash=’yourimage’ into the shortcode.

The advantage of this is that you can grab other frame if the first one is corrupted.

Not very good trick how to go around this is setting the autoplay to false, and autobuffering to true. This will show the first frame, but it will also load the whole video, which might significantly slow down loading of the whole page.

Currently we do not plan to extend this kind of functionality.

I saw someone mention this earlier, but it would be nice to have a way to remove the control bar. Is there anyway to hack one of the config files to get it to go away? It looks like it stays there for 2 full seconds before auto-hide kicks in, which wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t cover up some of the video. For a 5 second 320×240 clip, this is annoying.

Also, thanks for the dev work on this plug-in.

    On the file models/flowplayer-frontend.php, line 106, I add “onFinish: function(){ this.getPlugin(“play”).hide(); }”

We’ve done a major update with video upload and file browsing which is just going through its last beta testing and should be released next week.

Once that’s out the door we can start looking at HTML 5 options. YouTube is rolling out new (better) code for its HTML 5 player every week it seems so this is an area in heavy turbulence for the moment.

Am using your plugin to play over 100 videos on our membership site. Working like a charm. Just one thing: when the videos buffer for a few seconds at the beginning, the downloading graphic (the turning white line) is not in the centre of the video, it’s off to the left and too high.

    Hi John,

this option is not available, and nor will it be. Splash images are used to save the server load, so the videos are loaded only when user requests to watch them. Loading videos before the splash screen would be very inefficient, and it is something we are trying to avoid.

With the Flash war going between some of the major players, Apple being a big one with their iPad and iPhone, it becomes very important, having more ways to use a single player that can handle them all and easily be added to WordPress using a simple plugin, without having to add code every time.

    Hi Mike,

We will be adding HTML 5 support. Patience.

    Hi JMS,

Zdenka wasn’t quite clear enough about server load. With autobuffer, it means every visitor on every visit to your page will be downloading the video. This means that you use a lot more bandwidth than on demand. I know that I actually watch the video on only about 1/3 of the pages with video that I visit. That saves you money (no bandwidth overages) and means that people who do want to watch the video and other visitors to your site get faster performance.

If you want to autobuffer, you can turn that on in the options (we turn it off by default and recommend that it stays off).

    Thanks!
