The way to stay off the upgrade treadmill is not to upgrade just as you have done. I was happy with Tiger.

But to be honest neither Windows nor Mac OS has done anything really interesting since switching to NT and BSD underneath.

I found the iPad compelling immediately because of the interactions it permitted. But I don't try to use it for what it is not.

For my work I require multiple monitors and Windows XP to run legacy software proprietary to the business very few of our people are on Windows 7. We never installed Vista. We will likely skip Windows 8 since it adds nothing that we need.

If Mountain Lion interferes with your productivity it makes sense to revert them to the last best choice (assuming your new computers aren't TOO new) if the upgrade is just too much change for you.

When we had some Macs as production machines we left them at Tiger because we didn't want to pay for a new license beyond Photoshop 7. The newer CS Suites didn't do anything we needed.

But the situations in which the iPad is perfect are for too numerous to dismiss it altogether.

Hi Shock Me,

Thanks for sharing.

There are significant issues with configurations and functionality of the Mail client in both Mountain Lion and iOS 6 (at least iOS 5, I haven't tested 6).

To be honest, I hate Lion and strongly dislike Mountain Lion (Mountain Lion actually takes a few steps back towards usability). Apple have probably lost me as a customer for good, by breaking the interface to no good purpose.

Apple's rapid upgrade treadmill is really a loser's scenario. You have to spend more and more time and money just to keep your software and your hardware up to date.

Great for help. Pretty much sucks for those of who use Apple products.

I'd rather see and a slow and progressive evolution in the direction of higher productivity, than gratuitous interface changes that hinder productivity.

If you were running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and iOS 6, you wouldn't think the Mac an iPad are that different.

I would be perfectly comfortable getting along with just my iPad, but using the two together is better than using one exclusively. I'm not sure why folks are so enamored of using only a single form factor.

I use an iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Pro 13". By far the most used is the iPad. But I wouldn't trade any of the others because they have use cases the iPad just isn't the best at.

Thanks for stopping by Peter.

What part of maintaining two operating systems in various versions doesn't apply to others, Peter?

Sure someone could give up their computer and live with just an iPad and iPhone (single iOS to maintain and for which to buy software).

Still not quite sure about the advantages of the iPad for real work for people who work with text or complex graphics. As a POS information device, sure.

Oh brother. Don't foist your misguided needs on to others. Not everyone is you. I have it all and appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of each. The iPad is a fantastic portable device that has definite advantages over a Mac Book Air just as the opposite can be true. Why you would want to deny yourself is beyond me unless you are justifying your own choice due to lack of capitol to buy an iPad too. Suggest you quit writing and into a profession where you can. Sorry I have a real beef with those insisting their size fits all.
