The above comment is Wrike spam. You will remark that whenever anyone posts about spam, there are usually one to three badly written comments on the thread.

Mark Dallas lives in St Petersburg Russia.

Privyet Marik Dalasov! Ni dobroye delo Spam razlozhit po internetu. Otstan, pozhalyusta.

I've checked Wrike out and didn't like it. Since they started spamming every website under the sun, I dislike Write even more and would highly recommend you not buy your project management from spammers.

I know how it can get with a tool that has lots of features and fields. So I totslly support you on this. However, I still think that Basecamp is not the best project management software. It lacks some very important stuff. For example, how do you manage projects without being able to set a due date? I use Wrike for project management and collaboration within our team. It's even simpler than Basecamp, and it was designed for managing projects, not just for chatting on them.

Hello Nick,

Thanks for stopping by. I would very much agree with you that the 37signals client service manner is very highhanded. It's almost a good enough reason not to use their software.

On the other hand, the software is good enough to make it worth putting up with their poor client service.

I've had a quick look at VCSonline - unfortunately it's exactly what I am trying to get away from by using Basecamp. Too much info, too many fields, aesthetically disorganised.

That cluttered approach works for a lot of people. I need less information, more attractively presented.

I guess that's why 37signals software appeals to so many design shops. It works the way we do and lets us think in the way which comes naturally to us.

Hi there,

Happy New Year and enjoyed your tech write-up. If and when you are ready to replace several of your apps and have a big upgrade in functionality, security, and save money I would welcome you to try VPMi.

I co-founded http://www.VCSonline.com 9+ years ago because I was frustrated with project management software. It was too complex, expensive, and cumbersome for the people who were trying to collaborate, manage portfolios, and get their hands around resource capacity planning (and NOT just satisfy ridiculous management reporting requirements).

Sadly, our better known competitors (like Basecamp) came out with "PM for dummies" that really is nothing more then a mash up web-based Excel spreadsheet. IMO they are more interested in their exist strategy (heavily bought into by Jeff Bezos / Amazon VC) then fixing simple things their software should do easily and other things their software should never do.

For example - recently it was uncovered that everyone's Basecamp passwords can be seen in plain text across the internet when the people page is viewed by any admin.

Their response to such an unforgivable breach? See for yourself: http://forum.37signals.com/basecamp/forums/5/topics/4104

If you want simple, sensible, and supportable REAL project management, I would welcome you to try our software, VPMi Express ($5/user/month). For most companies, VPMi Express is cheaper then Basecamp and oh so much more functional (unlimited documents, projects, real workplans, issues, timesheets, and issues). It is a little more complex then Basecamp but you won't be looking for another tool in 6 months like most of our new VPMi Express customers tell us (BTW - you can't get your data out of Basecamp either).

If you need more then projects there is VPMi Professional. It additionally includes prioritization, capacity planning, templates, programs, MS Project integration, and workflow - all for only $10/user/month (report viewer/timesheet user) or $30/user/month (PMs).

Both versions are free for first 30 days and we have an extensive video training collection to help you get started.

This has been our life's work and we will still be doing this successfully long after the VCs are done playing.

I wish you luck in whatever you land on and you can feel free to write us with any questions you might have.

Best Regards,
