Resizing the window solved the issue. It was also driving me crazy; I get this issue most often with yahoo mail. I too did not install the fix since it might cause issues with latest version of Firefox (or later). Unfortunately, I’m thinking of ditching it anyway because it is now officially less safe than IE 8 is.

I just wanted to add my thanks to the list here. I thought I was going CRAZY. The resize window fix worked for me; didn’t have to try the config suggestion.

Plain and simple, on Windows Vista hit "f11" key to resize browser and then hit it again to return to original size and Voila! Look'''I'''can'''use'''my'''damn '''apostophe'''key'''again!

Thank you for this post! This problem hit me a couple of different times and I finally got around to doing a search for the solution. Resizing the browser window works! Are you kidding me? And yes this is exactly the kind of thing that will make people go back to IE (shudder). Thanks! Brett

Just tried it, after a month of disabling my add-on thinking it was them. Never had this problem before…

I was thinking, if they wanted a hotkey for it, why not use tild? or rather, that thing on the same key as tild… Oh well, Thanks for the site!

Yeah, that’s REALLY stupid. Why on earth would anyone want a commonly-used punctuation mark to bring up quick find?!?

I agree with you and with Cid. The quickfind issues is a real problem.

The Firefox developers should turn off these “convenience” features by default. The less of them turned on the better.
